Lifelog devices are proficient in logging huge amounts of information to assist memory recollection but they lack a swift information retrieval method, which is important when a person needs to take instant action based on previous experiences. This paper presents a mechanism for recalling past events by combining appropriate context with lifelogs. A user’s location is recorded together with the identity of people in close proximity and objects in the vicinity. Later, appropriate logs are retrieved based on the user’s present context. The system is programmed on a Nexus S smartphone that is connected to an infrared transmitter and receiver pair to recognize people nearby, and an image-recognition engine is used to distinguish three-dimensional objects via the smartphone in real time. In an evaluation, we compared our proposed approach to a Vicon Revue lifelog device and determined that our system is capable of retrieving useful logs related to a user’s present circumstances
