Manqabat is the oldest genre after Hamd and Naat in Urdu language and literature. Manqabat begins with the Qur'an. In many verses of the Qur'an, the greatness, infallibility, and purity of the Prophet (s) as well as the Ahl al-Bayt (a) are mentioned. After the Qur'an, the greatest source of writing is hadiths. Among the poets of the late 20th century are Sardar Naqvi, Gulzar Bukhari, Ashar Tarabi, Saif Zulfi, Mohsin Naqvi, Iftikhar Arif, Zafar Sharb, Faiz-ul-Hassan Faiz, Asi Karnali, Iqbal Kazmi, Syed Sibt Jafar Zaidi, Dr. Khayal Amrohi, Hafeez Taib, Naqash Kazmi, Masher Lakhnavi and Rehan Azmi. Therefore, like Hamd and Naat, the genre of Munqabat also became prevalent, in which the spiritual and religious services of the elders of the religion are described with the spirit of kindness and devotion.
