Abstract

This paper presents the results of investigation of emission of UV-radiation and the impact of high intensity corona discharge (photon) on actinometric conversions with WESP equipped with brush discharge electrodes. Experimental investigations were conducted according to a procedure followed in literature. Experimental investigations were conducted to determine UV-radiation at various applied voltage (kV) and impact of radiation intensity on chemical conversion of 0.6 M potassium iodide (KI) and 0.1 M potassium iodate (KIO3) in 0.01 M borax (Na2B4O7.10H2O) for formation of tri-iodide was recorded. WESP equipped with brush discharge electrode produces a suitable intensity of UV-radiation at l = 254 nm. A brush-tube electrostatic precipitator at specific operation conditions was used for actinometric conversions and tri-iodide formation was recorded. UV-radiation of l = 254 nm was confirmed with spectrophotometer and validated with the Rahn Actinometer. The capability of WESP (equipped with brush discharge electrodes) for UV-radiation was evaluated. Degradation of pollutants in waste water like acetone and phenol was also confirmed.
