Summary Forty five patients after septoplasty and 48 patients after SMR were studied for 8 months and the results were compared. Post-operative complications such as more frequent after submucous resection (SMR). Functional results of SMR, such as relief of nasal obstruction and headaches, were better (73% and 50% respectively than those of septoplasty ( 69% and 44%). Septoplasty technique is advocated but in the hands of trained surgeon.
