Management of hypertension is very pooreven in the developed countries while it is muchworse in developing countries (HypertensionLeague reports) like Pakistan. Due to lack ofeducation, our population’s awareness abouthypertension is abysmally low. The main thrust isneeded in prevention of hypertension as it islogical and cost-effective.In Pakistan too much salt is used inpractically all types of foods, be it bread, nan,curry, chutney or pickle etc. In fact all foods aresaturated with sodium chloride. Excessive saltintake is one of the important factors inprecipitating and aggravating hypertension. Thereis no law or campaign to restrict the quantity ofsalt in edibles. No labels are displayed on fooditems about the quantity of salt in them.
