Abstract

A corporation must be able to utilize big data analytics to better understand its consumers' desires and how they act in today's highly competitive industry. Entrepreurial orientation  "may summarize the style, choices, and actions of a company's business strategy." The study argues that organizations can improve their SME performance with the assistance of Entrepreurial orientation  and BDA-enabled dynamic capabilities by developing new products or services, enhancing the quality of existing products or services, reducing costs, and minimizing the market risk associated with developing new products or services. The study has examined a series of mediations of big data analytics (predictive and prescriptive) and big data knowledge management in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and SME performance. The respondents of the study were employees working in sports firms. A total of 654 questionnaires were distributed among the respondents through an online survey via social networking sites and Google forms. For further analysis, 407 filled questionnaires were received which indicated the response rate of 62.23%. The data analysis for the study was conducted through smart PLS 3 and SPSS. The results of the study are in line with the hypothesis. As anticipated, the study demonstrates that predictive and prescriptive BDA leads to the development of new products and processes in small and medium-sized firms (SMBs). The study will be helpful for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.

Research Objective

To examine the serial mediation of big data analytics (predictive and prescriptive) and big data knowledge management in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and SME performance in the sports sector.

Methodology

Survey questionnaire approach with a closed-ended questionnaire adapted from previous studies. Data collected via online survey using social networking sites and Google Forms from employees in sports firms. Data analysis conducted using Smart PLS 3 and SPSS.

Discussion

The study supports the Resource-Based View (RBV) theory, suggesting that BDA acts as an internal resource that enhances firm performance. BDA, both predictive and prescriptive, significantly mediates the relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and SME performance. The findings align with previous research indicating a positive link between predictive BDA and product/process innovation. The serial mediation analysis highlights the complex interplay between EO, BDA, BDKNM, and SME performance, with innovativeness and proactiveness playing key roles.

Key Findings

- Predictive and prescriptive Big Data Analytics (BDA) leads to the development of new products and processes in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).
- Big Data Knowledge Management (BDKNM) positively affects Sports SME performance.
- Predictive BDA significantly affects BDKM.
- Prescriptive BDA has a positive effect on BDKM.
- Risk-taking has a significant impact on Predictive BDA.
- Innovativeness has a significant impact on both Predictive and Prescriptive BDA.
- Reactiveness has a significant impact on Predictive BDA.
- Serial mediation of PBDA and BDKNM significantly impacts SME performance for innovativeness and proactiveness.

Conclusion

Entrepreneurial activities are crucial for SME success, and BDA, powered by AI, can enhance information processing capabilities. Businesses need to leverage BDA to understand customer expectations and behavior for success in competitive markets. EO and BDA-enabled dynamic capabilities contribute to improved SME performance through new product/service development, enhanced quality, cost reduction, and minimized market risk. The study confirms the mediating roles of predictive and prescriptive BDA and BDKNM in linking entrepreneurial orientation to SME performance in the Chinese sports sector.

Fact Check

1. Response Rate: 407 usable questionnaires were received out of 654 distributed, indicating a response rate of 62.23%. (Confirmed)
2. Data Analysis Software: The study used Smart PLS 3 and SPSS for data analysis. (Confirmed)
3. Sample Demographics: 68.4% of respondents were male, and 31.6% were female. (Confirmed)
