Abstract

Intrinsic and extrinsic rewards play significant roles in influencing employee performance and motivation. The primary objective of this study is to ascertain the correlation between various forms of rewards—both intrinsic and extrinsic—and employee performance. It seeks to examine the interconnection between extrinsic and intrinsic rewards and their impact on employee performance comprehensively. Furthermore, the study aims to identify the factors influencing private schools in adopting effective practices and a structured approach towards recognizing staff contributions. To achieve these objectives, descriptive statistics were utilized to gather demographic information. Subsequently, inferential statistics were employed to analyze the relationships between variables. A total of 70 questionnaires were distributed among the teaching staff of a private school, yielding 65 accurate responses. The findings indicate a statistically significant positive influence of both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards on employee job performance. Additionally, the study reveals a strong predictive relationship between these independent variables and employee job performance within the workplace.

Research Objective

To ascertain the correlation between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and employee performance, and to identify factors influencing private schools in adopting effective reward practices.

Methodology

Quantitative research model using descriptive and inferential statistics. A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was distributed to 70 teaching staff of private schools in Gambat City, with 65 valid responses. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 16.0, employing descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlation, and t-tests.

Discussion

The study highlights a strong interrelationship between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. While individual impacts of these reward types on employee performance were not statistically significant in this specific context, their combined presence and interaction are crucial. The findings suggest that other factors beyond these rewards might play a more dominant role in influencing employee performance in private schools in Gambat City.

Key Findings

A statistically significant positive correlation was found between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards (r = 0.993, p < 0.001). However, the study did not find statistically significant positive influences of intrinsic rewards (p = 0.198) or extrinsic rewards (p = 0.170) individually on employee performance at the conventional alpha level of 0.05.

Conclusion

The study concludes that while intrinsic and extrinsic rewards are closely related, their direct, independent impact on employee performance in the studied private schools was not statistically significant. This implies a need to consider a broader range of factors influencing teacher performance and suggests that school leaders should adopt multifaceted strategies to enhance teacher effectiveness and satisfaction.

Fact Check

- 65 questionnaires were returned out of 70 distributed.
- The reliability of the questionnaire was checked through Cronbach's Alpha test, yielding 0.994.
- The correlation between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards was found to be 0.993.
