Abstract

This study investigated the relationships among numeracy, risk literacy, risk perception, and climate self-protective behaviors. A correlational research design was employed for the investigation. Data were collected from adults (124 females and 50 males) using non-probability convenience sampling. The assessment tools included a self-constructed demographic sheet, the Berlin Numeracy Scale (Cokely et al., 2012), the Risk Perception Scale (Brewer et al., 2001), and the Climate Self-Protection Scale (Wullenkord & Reese, 2021) to evaluate demographic information, numeracy and risk literacy, risk perception, and climate self-protective behaviors. The findings were obtained through data analysis in SPSS, utilizing Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression analyses. The results of the study revealed a significant correlation between numeracy and risk literacy with both risk perception and climate self-protective behaviors. Additionally, there was a significant correlation between risk perception and climate self-protective behaviors. The findings suggested that risk perception acts as a moderator between numeracy, risk literacy, and climate self-protective behaviors. These results have implications for improving risk perception to enhance the adoption of climate self-protective behaviors.
