The findings support the social cognitive theory, highlighting the influence of social constructs like partner support on emotional regulation and life satisfaction. The study found that partner support directly influences emotional regulation and life satisfaction. Furthermore, mental help-seeking attitudes act as a crucial mediator, facilitating the positive impact of partner support on these outcomes. The discussion also touches upon cultural biases in Pakistan regarding mental health help-seeking and the importance of supportive relationships for overall well-being.
There were significant positive relationships between partner support and emotional regulation (r=0.41), partner support and life satisfaction (r=0.44), and partner support and mental help-seeking attitudes (r=0.37). Partner support had a significant impact on emotional regulation (R²=0.72) and life satisfaction (R²=0.81). Mental help-seeking attitudes significantly mediated the link between partner support and emotional regulation, and between partner support and life satisfaction, indicating a full mediation in both cases.
