Abstract

The present research study aims to explore the racial injustice in American society especially encountered by Black people in Adjei-Brenyah’s Friday Black (2018). The selected literary work is consisted on short stories exploring the different type of racial discrimination and injustice even in the modern age. The researcher has analyzed the elements of racial injustice in selected short stories of Friday Black (2018) under the umbrella of Critical Race Theory by Delgado and Jean (2001). Considering racial discrimination and how it affects black people is one of the study's goals. The current research is qualitative in nature as it is based on the textual analysis. Textual analysis was chosen as a qualitative method because it is descriptive and focused on the chosen text of the piece of literature. The state does not explicitly express racial discrimination and injustice nevertheless exist due to the actions, words, and tone used. The study's findings demonstrate that there is racial discrimination present in interpersonal relationships as well as in legal and societal settings, where black people are treated with deference and marginalization. The tone, materials, stereotyped depictions, and undervaluation of black people result from cultural, individual, and social racism, which breeds mistrust of people, institutions, and social norms and structures.
