Abstract

This current study aimed at investigating the effect of growth mindset on motivation to learn and achievement in the subject of general science. The sample included eight-graders. The study followed an experimental design based on the evaluation of a controlled group and an experimental group with the help of pre-test and post – test evaluation. An achievement test and students’ adaptive learning engagement in science (SALES) were used to measure whether there were differences in the mean scores for students’ motivation to learn science and achievement. Results of the data analysis highlighted the fact that growth mindset intervention had a significantly positive effect on students’ motivation to learn science and achievement. Based on the findings, growth mindset activities are recommended to be used for teaching science at the elementary level.
