Abstract

This review presents the Japanese transition of Armughan-e Hijaaz (a collection of Urdu poetry of Iqbal) along with other Japanese translation of Urdu works in Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. Many Urdu classical and modern texts were rendered into Japanese language to serve the language students of the university. Ghalib, Iqbal and Faiz are the fortunate poets of Urdu whose poetry rendered into Japanese language. Many Japanese scholars and translators have contributed much to acquaint the Japanese Urdu loving academic audience. For the first time, Japanese Baba-e Urdu began to translate Urdu text Bagh-o Bahar. Many followed the footpath. Among those few translators are Prof Suzuki Takeshi, Prof Yutaka Asada Yutaka, Heroshi Hagita, Prof Matsumura, Prof So Yamane, Ms Shashore and Prof Heroji Kataoka.
