Assertiveness is a tendency of expressing one’s feelings, beliefs and opinions in an appropriate way without any fear and without violating rights of others. The purpose of this research was determination of assertiveness status of students of a public university in Lahore. This study used quantitative research approach. A survey research design is employed for this research. The sample of the study was comprised of 100 students who were selected by using convenience sampling technique. The data were collected by using Assertiveness Scale for Adolescents that is comprised of 11 situational items descriptive of a behavior. The scale explained different interpersonal conditions and provided the individual answering with three options as to what respondent would typically do in every condition. This study has found that 7% respondents were categorized as aggressive and 25 % were categorized as assertive. However, a large majority of the respondents (68%) fell into the category unassertive. Amongst those (n=25) who were categorized as assertive, 12% were highly assertive, 56% were fairly assertive and 32% as poorly assertive. Unassertiveness of a large majority of the subjects should be a matter of concern for all the stakeholders because if students do not express their thoughts, feelings and ideas they can lose their sense of identity.
