Abstract

Reading skills are the backbone of learning a foreign language i.e.English. Secondary level is a complete stage of education in itself.After its completion a certificate is awarded. The researcherfocused on theevaluation of the teaching of reading skills ofEnglish at secondary level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Pakistan). Thedata regarding the mentioned topic were collected with the help ofclassroom observation. Thirty classrooms of English at secondarylevel were selected as sample of the study from 30 different BoysHigher Secondary schools of Mardan. The observation checklistcovered all the areas and aspects of the teaching of the readingskills. The collected data were tabulated and analyzed with thehelp of Chi-square formula. The analysis of the data revealed thatthere is a dearth of highly trained Englishlanguage teachers inDistrict Mardan,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This researchpaper is very beneficial for the English teachers especially for thesecondary level English teachers to look back over their practicesof teaching English language.
