Abstract

The Holy Qur'an has been translated into Urdu for better understanding of the final divine message of Allah almighty.Urdu is a major language in the subcontinent, and there are several translations of the Holy Qur’an in Urdu. The purpose of this article is to trace how the Quranic translations proved to be helpful in the development of Urdu. For this purpose, two prominent scholars, Molana Abul Ala Maududi and Justice Pir Karam Shah Alazhari, did a marvelous job in the field of Quran translations. The study traces the linguistic importance of their Urdu translation of the Qur'an. This effort shows how they kept the linguistic aspects in mind and has led to great growth in Urdu linguistics.
