Description

Christopher Columbus met Arawak people on San Salvador Island. He also travelled to Cuba and Hispaniola. But Columbus didn’t find gold in any of the areas. He was sure that he was somewhere near Cipango (Japan) or Cathay (China). He also noticed that the locals were wearing gold rings in their noses. Columbus believed in Biblical stories so he also thought that Hispaniola is the land of Sheba (Saba) that is mentioned in the Bible.
