Description

Bhaikar is a medicinal wild plant (shrub) commonly found in the Salt Range in Pakistan. In English, it is called Vasaka and its botanical name is Justicia adhatoda. This plant is also found in some areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab province. Local Hakeems / ayurvedic practitioners consider this plant very effective for all disorders / ailments of human respiratory system. It is used for curing asthma, allergy, cough, flu, bronchitis and soar throat. Extract of this plant is a major component of the Joshanda (a local recipe to cure flu). People use the extract of its flowers, buds and shoots to cure different diseases. A few characteristics of this medicinal plant mentioned in literature are;
