Steel cutting ceremony of 2 Type 054 A/P Frigates being built for Pakistan Navy was held at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard China. Cdre Azfar Humayun of PN & President CSTC were present on the occasion. These Warships will strengthen Pak Navy's capability to maintain peace & stability in the Indian Ocean Region.


Pakistan Navy is inducting Type 54 AP Frigates in its inventory. This is one of the largest big-ticket single procurement by Pakistan Navy.
Pakistan Navy Initiated Modernisation Plan in 2006 according to which Pakistan is adding Frigates, Corvettes & Submarines to its Naval fleet over the next few years.
Steel cutting ceremony of two warships of Type 054 A/P Frigates Project being built for Pakistan Navy was held at Hudong Zhonghua (HZ) Shipyard China. Chief Naval Overseer (CNO) China, Commodore Azfar Humayun of Pakistan Navy and President China Shipbuilding Trading Company (CSTC) jointly performed the steel cutting of the two of the Frigates.

While speaking at the occasion, the Chief Guest highlighted that this programme is yet another manifestation of time tested and ever-growing Pak-China friendship. He also acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the CSTC team in this important programme.

Type-054 A/P ships are the state of the art frigates equipped with modern Surface, Subsurface and Anti-air weapons and sensors. Once constructed, these ships will be the most technologically advanced platforms of Pakistan Navy which will strengthen its capability to meet future challenges and maintain peace, stability & power equilibrium in the Indian Ocean Region.

The ceremony was also attended by officers of Pakistan Navy and representatives/officials of China Shipbuilding Trading Company and Hudong Zhonghua shipyard.

The Type 54A frigate is a class of Chinese multi-role frigates, the first of which entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy Surface Force in 2007. As of August 2018, 28 are in service. It is a development of the Type 54 frigate, using the same hull but with improved sensors and weapons.

Pakistan Navy (PN) and Pakistan Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) announced that they concluded a deal with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd. (CSTC) for two Type 054A frigates.
This is a follow-on to an order – ostensibly for two other Type 054AP made in 2017.
