A female sperm whale and its baby were found floating dead, entangled in fishing net, by an environmental group in the Tyrrhenian Sea off Italy's coast, Thursday, June 20. The Italian Coast Guard responded and concluded that the mother likely died while trying to free the baby from the net. Part of the net was found in the mother's mouth while the baby was completely covered by it. The deaths come just months after an 8-meter (26-foot) sperm whale was found dead off Sardinia with 22 kilograms (48.5 pounds) of plastic in its belly.
