My respected elders and my dear brothers and sisters, I welcome all of you with the Islamic greetings, "Assalamu Alaikum, Wa Rahmatullahi, Wa Barkatahu", "May Peace, Mercy and Blessing of Allah (swt) of Almighty God, be on all of you".
The topic of this evening’s talk of mine is,
“The Qur’an and Modern Science: Compatible or Incompatible?”
The Glorious Qur'an is the last and final revelation of Allah (swt), of Almighty God which was revealed to the last and final messenger Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). For any book to claim that it is the word of God, for any book to claim that it is the revelation from Allah (swt), it should stand the test of time. Previously hundreds and thousands of year’s back it was the age of Miracles. And Alhumdulillah the Glorious Qur’an is the Miracle or Miracles. Later on, more than thousand years back it was the age of literature and poetry when the Qur’an was revealed. And Alhumdulillah, Muslims and Non-Muslims scholars alike they acclaim the Glorious Qur’an to be the best Arabic literature available on the face of the earth.
And Allah (swt) gives the challenge in the Glorious Qur’an, in Surah Al-Baqarah, Chapter.No.2, Verse.No.23 and 24, which says,
“Wa in kuntum fi Raibim mimma Nazzalna alaa abdina”
“And if you are in doubt, as what we have revealed to our servant, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from time to time.”
“Fa’too bi Sooratim mim mislihi”
“Then produce a Surah some what similar to it.”
“Wad’oo Shuhadaa’a kum min doonillahi in Kuntum Saadiqeen”
“And call forth your helpers and witnesses if there are any besides Allah. If your doubts are but true.”
“F ail lam taf’aloo”
“And if ye cannot.”
“Wa lan taf’aloo”
“And of a surety you cannot.”
“Fat’taqun Naaral latee wa qoodu han naasu wal hijaara U’iddat lil Kaafireen”
“Then fear the fire whose fuel is men and stones’ which is prepared for those who reject faith.”
Here the Qur’an gives a challenge, that try and produce a Surah some what similar to it. And the shortest Surah is hardly three verses, hardly few words. No one has done it so far and no one InshaAllah till eternity will ever be able to do it. But today suppose a religious scripture in a very poetic fashion says that the world is flat. Will a modern man believe in it? But natural no, because today is not the age of literature and poetry. Today is the age of science and technology.
