Description

The Higher Education Commission, Pakistan held a pre-departure session today to celebrate the 192 Erasmus Mundus scholarship awardees of this year who are set to leave for different European countries to study under the Erasmus+ Programme.

With 103 men and 89 women awardees this year, Pakistan has maintained its 2022 position for the highest number of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships. A total of 2835 students from 128 countries have been selected for the scholarships.

The drastic increase in the number of awardees is credited to HEC, which began offering facilitation for materialisation of the programme for Pakistani students in 2016. Pakistan continued the upward trajectory from 46 students awarded scholarships in 2017 to 78 in 2018; 91 in 2019; 134 in 2020; 141 in 2021; 166 in 2022 and 192 selectees proceeding in 2023. Till date, the total number of students benefitting from the programme in Pakistan is 848.

Executive Director HEC Dr Shaista Sohail graced today's event as the chief guest. She expressed high hopes of the awardees actively contributing to Pakistan’s development upon their return in the coming years.

Also present at the event was Chargé d’Affaires, Delegation of European Union in Pakistan, Mr. Thomas Seiler, officials from European embassies and HEC, and Erasmus+ Programme alumni.
