Agents of socialization, or institutions that can impress social norms upon an individual, include the family, religion, peer groups, economic systems, legal systems, language, and the media.
A social institution consists of a group of people who have come together for a common purpose. These institutions are a part of the social order of society and they govern the behavior and expectations of individuals.
Many social institutions shape the process of socialization, including, as we will see, the family, the media, peers, religion, sports, and schools.
These all can be considered agents of socialization.
