Description

Urdu shayari is replete with so many Nazms and Ash'ars about Lord Ram & Krishna. It is said that more than hundred versions of Ramayana were written in Urdu and there was a strong performance tradition particularly in north and central India.

It is an undeniable truth that Ram Kahani is also a tale of ambivalent, mortal things, their relationships, dreams and failings and hence inspires poets to write about various aspects and characters of this Lazawaal story.

Prof. Danish Iqbal has keen interest in Urdu Ramleela tradition has also adapted the script of the lyrical stage play Dastan-E-Ram and another poetic performance Daastan Apne Ram Ji ki, apart from academic writings on the subject.
