Students solidarity march 2021 begins across Pakistan | They want student unions restored, better education facilities | 27th November 2021 | Geo News | Lahore | Islamabad | Karachi | Faisalabad

Students across Pakistan began marching for the restoration of student unions and better education facilities across the country.

The march started at 2pm. In Lahore, students gathered near the Charing Cross while Marchers in Karachi gathered near the Regal Chowk at 2pm and reached Press Club at 4pm.

Amjad Hussain, Student of the University of Karachi, says he is here because he needs his voice to be heard. There are hundreds of problems students face but we have no platform to put them at.

“We are the leaders of the future. Are these people scared of us? When laborers and teachers have unions, why can’t we?” he added.

Same as Rabia from Balochistan who is protesting against on-campus harassment she said, recently, cameras were found at the women’s washroom in the varsity. The matter was huge but no one talked about it. Why? Isn’t it the university’s responsibility to provide students security, she asks.

She says that students across Balochistan have been protesting for over 21 days against the disappearance of two students from the University of Balochistan. But is anyone talking about it? No. The security in Balochistan is the highest among a province yet it seems like our rights are not protected.

The Students Solidarity March, organised by the Progressive Students Collective. Students have also started marching in Islamabad, Multan, Quetta, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Gilgit, and other big cities of Pakistan.

According to the PSC, students will take to the streets with these demands this year:

5% increase in the government’s education budget.
Formation of women harassment committees at education institutions.
Removing all security operates from campuses.
Provision of internet service in all cities.
Release of students from jails.
Student cards for free commute and health facilities.
