In a stunning turn of events, the founder of PTI and his close associate, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, have been handed a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence in a cipher case. The special court, operating under the Official Secrets Act, delivered this bombshell verdict in a closely-watched spectacle.

The verbal judgment swiftly followed the recording of statements from the accused, despite the defense's attempts to delay proceedings. Questionnaires designed for this purpose were met with refusal to sign, but the PTI founder did eventually present himself, taking over an hour to articulate his stance before the judge.

During the proceedings, the special court judge, Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, posed a crucial question to the main accused: "Where is the cipher?" Shockingly, the PTI founder claimed ignorance and vaguely mentioned the document being in his office, a blatant violation of the Official Secrets Act, as he manipulated public sentiments for personal political gains.

This sentencing marks the end of a saga that began with a theatrical display of a document (later revealed to be non-original) at a rally in Islamabad, where the PTI founder insinuated a foreign conspiracy against him through a no-confidence motion led by the PDM opposition.

As the convicted duo contemplates their next move, with the option to appeal to higher courts, the PTI made a last-ditch effort by challenging the appointment of state defense counsel through the Islamabad High Court.

The lengthy trial in Adiala jail witnessed a tumultuous cross-examination of 11 witnesses, featuring prominent figures such as Sohail Mehmood, Azam Khan, Yusuf Naseem Khokhar, Aftab Akbar Durrani, and Asad Majeed.

Disruptions persisted as the accused grew angry, shouting during proceedings. The state-appointed defense counsel further fueled the chaos, with Qureshi even snatching the case file and hurling it away in a fit of rage. The PTI's objections to the counsel's appointment and allegations of an invalid trial only added to the courtroom drama.

Despite the FIA prosecutor's request to limit the defense's right to cross-examination, citing delay tactics, the trial marches on, leaving the accused with an uncertain future and a legal battle that could extend for months, if not years.
