PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif intends to see party stalwart and confidant Ishaq Dar as the interim prime minister, the PPP has expressed strong reservations saying a “man from the Sharif family” is not suitable to lead the ‘neutral’ setup.

Asif reacts to Dar's nominee as caretaker PM

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Monday reacted to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar's nomination as the caretaker prime minister.

Speaking to media, Khawaja said: "Ishaq Dar is my brother and a friend. Dar and I share a relationship that I very much own. During Pervez Musharraf's era, we both faced jail . The possibility of Dar becoming prime minister is something I also hope for".

"However, my knowledge is that there are objections to Ishaq Dar's appointment as the interim prime minister. The people will raise objections if the caretaker prime minister will be from the ruling party," Khawaja added.

ECP issues non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI chief in contempt case

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday evening issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI chief, IPP leader Fawad Chaudhry, and former PTI secretary general Asad Umar.

A four-member ECP bench, headed by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani heard the ECP contempt plea against PTI chief, Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar. However, lawyers representing them did not appear before the ECP.

Umar’s assistant lawyer requested the commission to exempt him from appearing because Umar had cases against him, adding that he had got an appointment from doctor. “Umar kept on presenting before the ECP,” he added.
