Description

India released over 70,000 cusecs of water into Pakistan's River Sutlej from the Harike headworks on Tuesday, resulting in a continuous rise in the water level. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) promptly issued a high alert to the Punjab authorities, urging them to take necessary precautions in response to the water release.

Consequently, the River Sutlej overflowed its banks, causing flooding in nearby villages on both sides of the river. Among the affected areas, village Sehjra near Kasur was inundated by the floodwater. Despite the PDMA's high alert, rescue teams were unable to reach the area, leading residents to evacuate to safer locations on their own.

In anticipation of the potential threat of floods, the PDMA had previously instructed the Deputy Commissioners of Kasur, Okara, Vehari, and Pakpattan to make adequate arrangements. As a precautionary measure, a high alert has been issued by the PDMA for the entire province of Punjab.

The situation remains critical as the water level continues to rise, posing a significant challenge for the authorities and residents in the affected regions. Stay tuned for further updates on the ongoing flood situation in the area.
