Abstract

Ali Ahmad Bakathir is considered one of the leading writers of the novel in Arabic literature and a pioneer of the Islamic historical novel. He is a committed, prolific, and multi-talented writer, poet, playwright, novelist, and thinker. His production of plays and novels indicates his abundance of knowledge, his spaciousness in his thought and his art.
His novel "The Beautiful Knight" is a historical novel that narrates the conflict between emotion and duty. The author deals with the topic in depth and presents the most difficult problems and successful solutions in a high-level literary style with a spirit of optimism and a vision for the future. The character of the hero is one of the most important components of novel that integrates between the elements of the novel, and attempts to analyze social situations, human problems, community corruption and revolution.
This study presents the image of the hero of this novel that encountered many contradictions and existential tensions. It reveals its intellectual, psychological, social, and external dimensions, and explains its ideas, behaviors, and attitudes in the internal and external conflict with the values, principles and facts mentioning his emotions. It attempts to present the image of the hero in Ali Ahmed Bakathir's novel relying on the structural, analytical, and critical approach.
