Abstract

The results of this study demonstrated the complex relationship that exists between project quality, cost, stakeholder management maturity, and the success of construction projects in Pakistan. The building business was defined by a variety of obstacles and dynamic socio-economic issues, which made for an engaging background for that investigation. This study produced the conceptual framework that included the interaction between these important variables and integrated the theories of project management. Surveys were used to collect empirical data, and the research's theoretical implications helped to shape the conversation around project management. On the other hand, the research's practical consequences provided project managers with useful advice. Nevertheless, there were certain limitations to this study, such as the cross-sectional design and possible biases in the self-reported data. Even with certain limitations, the results open up new avenues for future investigation. For example, recommending the need for long-term research and the creation of useful instruments to improve project management techniques in Pakistan's construction sector. A sample size of 203 professionals working on projects in Pakistan's construction industry were chosen for the study. A key factor in project performance is the maturity of project management.

Research Objective

To investigate the relationship between project cost, quality, stakeholder management maturity, and the performance of building construction projects in Pakistan, and to examine the moderating role of organizational culture on these relationships.

Methodology

Quantitative research plan using a deductive methodology. Data was collected through structured questionnaires with a five-point Likert scale administered to 203 professionals in the construction industry in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Variables included three independent variables (project cost management maturity, project quality management maturity, stakeholder management maturity), one dependent variable (project performance), and one moderator (organizational culture). Data analysis involved correlation and regression analysis using SPSS.

Discussion

The study highlights the importance of project management maturity in cost, quality, and stakeholder management for project performance in Pakistan's construction sector. It emphasizes the significant moderating role of organizational culture, particularly in influencing the relationship between stakeholder management and project performance, and cost management and project performance. The findings suggest that a supportive organizational culture is crucial for enhancing project efficacy.

Key Findings

- Project performance has a significant positive correlation with project cost management maturity (H1) and stakeholder management maturity (H3).
- Project performance has a positive correlation with quality management maturity (H2), though less pronounced than cost and stakeholder management.
- Organizational culture significantly impacts the relationship between stakeholder management and project performance (H5), and between cost management and project performance (H4).
- Organizational culture does not substantially moderate the relationship between quality management and project performance (H6).

Conclusion

Organizational culture plays a vital role in regulating the connections between project performance and the maturity of quality, cost, and stakeholder management in Pakistan's construction industry. A comprehensive approach to project management that integrates cultural considerations is necessary for effective project management. Project managers and organizational leaders can leverage these insights to align project management practices with cultural norms, thereby improving stakeholder relations, decision-making, and overall project effectiveness.

Fact Check

- The study surveyed 203 professionals in Pakistan's construction industry.
- The construction industry in Pakistan was growing at an annual rate of more than 7% (World Statistics 2022).
- Correlation analysis used the Pearson correlation coefficient, with weak connections between 0 and 0.2, moderate between 0.3 and 0.4, and substantial between 0.7 and 1.0.
