Abstract

The present study is aimed to trace out the relationship of nature and man in the play Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare. The major theoretical insights have been taken from the model of Ecocriticism proposed by Rueckert (2006) in his seminal work Metaphor and Reality: A Meditation on Man, Nature and Words. The ecocritical discourse analysis of the play, Antony and Cleopatra, reveals that there is proximal relationship between nature and human culture. Both human and nature remain interactive consistently. The ecocritical survey of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra concludes that each human character plays complete set of roles, either ecocidal or eco-affable depending upon the intensity of their eco-awareness. It can concluded that Nature has brightness and joy which happen to be essential elements blossom and revive in due course making possible the improvement and delighted restoration.
