Abstract

The current KAP study about the traffic safety regulations among general public in Lahore, Pakistan showed that there is a discrepancy in people's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about traffic safety regulations. Safe following distances were a major area of ignorance, despite an overall high level of understanding on the use of turn signals, wearing helmets, and the risks associated with distracted driving. It is interesting to note that attitudes on keeping a safe distance were largely positive, indicating the need for focused educational initiatives to close the knowledge-practice gap in this important field. Corresponding to this, a favorable attitude on obeying speed limits and traffic signals did not entirely translate into regular behavior, suggesting that enforcement measures may be necessary in addition to teaching initiatives. The findings also indicate significant inconsistencies in preventing distracted driving, requiring further examination into self-reported practices.
