Abstract

This research explores the crucial role of prison staff in rehabilitating offenders within Pakistan's prison system, which faces challenges like overcrowding, resource limitations, and systemic issues. Beyond maintaining order and security, prison staff act as mentors, educators, and counsellors, playing a key role in fostering positive behavioural change and inmate reintegration. The study identifies significant occupational challenges for prison staff, including overcrowding, limited resources, security concerns, and burnout, and stresses the importance of understanding these challenges to devise effective strategies. It also evaluates the impact of organizational policies on prison staff's ability to contribute to rehabilitation, assessing policies related to education, training, and staff support. The findings underscore the necessity of addressing these challenges and implementing supportive policies to enhance rehabilitation efforts, providing valuable insights for policymakers, prison administrators, and criminal justice practitioners.
