Malik Bennabi, an Algerian Muslim thinker, was born in 1905. The study of civilization is the central axis and primary domain of his thought, around which his ideas revolve. According to him, the fundamental issue of any nation and the root of all its problems is its civilization. This is why he published his works under the title "Problems of Civilization" (مشکلات الحضارۃ). He believes that if a society or nation is facing any difficulty, it is a matter of civilization. If the conditions for harmony within that nation are met, its civilization will be at its peak, and all its problems, whether colonialism, poverty, or ignorance, will automatically be resolved under it. These ailments are, in fact, different forms of one illness, which is the "lack of civilization." Malik Bennabi has made this illness and its treatment the subject of most of his books.
Therefore, to understand Malik Bennabi's thought, it is essential to study his views and ideas on civilization and to understand what he means by civilization and how he uses this term.
