Abstract

Dear Sir,

We have read with interest the paper by Amjad Hamid and Saadat Mi Khan: Peak expiratory flow rate in healthy Adults (J.P.M.A. 34: 363, Dec. 1984).
While studying the highianders of Misgar (3200 m.) in the North of Hunza, we studied chest measurements and spirome try (Calculair, Hospal U.S.A.) and found no significant difference as compared to controls in Peshawar, in the chest volume and index, forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in the first second and peak expiratory flow. We concluded that adapative thoracic cage and apulnionary function changes did not occur in the residents of Misgar at altitude 3200 m (Jafary et al. 1985).
