INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY OF THE MUSLIM WORLD
The Pakistan Dental Association and the International College of Dentists are planning to hold an international Congress of Public Health Dentistry of the Muslim World in Oct. 1981. The idea has been appreciated by the President of Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan is extending all sorts of help to upkeep the standard of the congress. It is expected that many of the Muslim countries will participate, in addition to local participation.
PNEUMONIA VACCINE EFFECTIVE IN DIABETICS
Pneumonia vaccine is effective in raising the antibody level against the disease in diabetics, says a report in the Dec. 12 Journal of the American Medical Association.
Health authorities have recommended that diabetics be vaccinated against pneumonia, because pneumonia when combined with diabetes greatly increases the risk of death, says Thomas R. Beam Jr., M.D. of the State University of New York, Buffalo.
But it had been uncertain whether diabetes impaired the ability of the vaccine to trigger antibody production against pneumonia in the body.
Dr. Beam found that the diabetics responded well to the pneumonia vaccine. Levels of antibodies in the blood were sufficiently high to offer protection from the disease, if caused by One of the 14 strains included in the vaccine.
