Abstract

Theories of Evolution and Development of Urdu in Khyber PakhtunKhawa (Sarhad)
Urdu is a language of the Indo-European language family. In Urdu, linguistic research started in the field of lexicography. Initially western missionaries took steps to understand the language and compiled books about Urdu words and grammar. After Meer Aman's famous statement in his book "Bagh o Bahar" a discussion about the origin and development of Urdu has been evolved. As per modern linguistic approaches and techniques, this almost 200 years long debate should have ended now. In Pakistan still the debate is continued, Pakistani scholars are presenting their hypothesis to find relations between regional languages and Urdu. In this article, theories finding relations of Hindko and Urdu are focused and discussed.
