Abstract

Study of Urdu Words in "Farhag e Lisan us Shuara", an Old Persian Dictionary
"Lisan us Shuara" is one of the oldest Persian dictionaries compiled in the sub-continent. Its period of compilation is of Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq ie. 754-790 Hijri. Name and life history of the compiler of this dictionary is not known. Like other dictionaries of that time it has a traditional start from Hamd, Naat and Qaseeda of the Sultan. The merit of this dictionary is that it is divided into chapters and classes which make its use more easy and efficient. The article discusses the Urdu words included in this Persian dictionary.
