A Manuscript of "Dewan e Ghamgeen"
In 1253 A.H, Syed Ali Ghamgeen compiled his Deewan under the title 'Makhzan -e- Asrar [Encyclopaedia of Secrets] consisting of more than 800 odes [Ghazaliyat]. Todate eleven different manuscripts of this poetical work have been discovered. This paper introduces and analyses the manuscript acquired by Moulvi Abdul Haq from a person belonging to Bekhud Delhvi for Rs. 30. He preserved it in Kutub Khana Khas, Anjuman Taraqi-e- Urdu. This manuscript is still in good shape, barring worm-damage at a place or two, even after about one and a half century. The manuscript is the most complete found so far and is used as a copy-text in later works of different scholars. Based upon different evidences, the paper suggests that the manuscript was seen by Syed Ghamgeen himself. The evidences include additions, amendments, etc in the same handwriting which has been identified as that of Syed Ali Ghamgeen in another scholarly work of Younas Khaldi titled "Mutalea Hazrat-e- Ghamgeen Dehlvi" [Studies of Hazrat-e- Ghamgeen Dehlvi]. In the manuscript, titles have been written in red ink which was customary in that age and hand writing is stylish.
