Abstract

This research article examines the seminal contributions of Christopher Marlowe to feminist discourse within the context of Renaissance theatre. Marlowe's innovative approach to depicting female characters in key tragedies such as "Tamburlaine the Great (1587)," "The Tragic History of Dr. Faustus (1604)," "The Jew of Malta (1590)," and "Dido, the Queen of Carthage (1593)" is analyzed through a qualitative lens. By exploring themes of ambition, agency, desire, and resilience, this study uncovers Marlowe's nuanced portrayal of women in a male-dominated society. Additionally, the research contends that Marlowe's work was influenced by the reign of Queen Elizabeth, making him a trailblazer in initiating discussions on gender dynamics within Elizabethan drama. This analysis offers a comprehensive understanding of Marlowe's enduring impact on feminist discourse in Renaissance theatre, solidifying his legacy as a forerunner in the portrayal of women on the stage.
