ABSTRACT
The benefits of using a laser in soft tissue treatment include less oedema, reduced inflammation, and quicker recovery. Nowadays, soft-tissue interventions, including periodontal recontouring, operculectomy, or frenectomy, are possible thanks to the introduction of diode lasers that are strongly absorbable melanin and haemoglobin. In this case, a 17-year-old patient at the near end of her orthodontic treatment was concerned about her gummy smile. She also had a gingival swelling in the lower anterior segment. Furthermore, she had a high labial frenum attachment. It was decided to go for a gingivectomy and frenectomy with the help of a laser (Diode Lasotronix 980nm).
To present a case report on the use of laser gingivectomy in a patient undergoing orthodontic treatment who was concerned about her gummy smile, gingival swelling, and high labial frenum attachment.
This is a case report describing the treatment of a 17-year-old patient. The patient underwent laser gingivectomy and frenectomy using a Diode Lasotronix 980nm laser after initial scaling, curettage, and antibiotic therapy. The procedure involved laser ablation to increase crown height and removal of ablated tissue.

Lasers, particularly diode lasers, offer benefits in soft tissue treatments such as gingivectomy, including reduced edema, inflammation, and quicker recovery. They are a viable alternative to traditional surgical methods for treating gingival hypertrophy and improving aesthetics during orthodontic treatment. While lasers have advantages, potential lateral heat injury is a consideration, influenced by factors like electrode size, cutting speed, and tissue moisture.
The laser gingivectomy and frenectomy procedure resulted in a pleasing cosmetic outcome, a quick recovery time, and minimal postoperative pain for the patient. The diode laser was effective for soft tissue surgery, with no operational or cosmetic harm to the mucogingival system or bone degradation.
The use of laser gingivectomy in this case report demonstrated positive outcomes, including improved aesthetics and patient satisfaction, with minimal complications. Diode lasers are a valuable tool for soft tissue interventions in dentistry, especially in conjunction with orthodontic treatment.
