Maulana WahidUddin Khan, a prominent religious scholar in India, extensively addressed various aspects of religion, particularly Islam, in the context of modern science and philosophy. His works aimed to guide Muslims in facing contemporary challenges to Islam and religion. One such challenge was Atheism, which he tackled comprehensively using a scientific and logical approach. According to Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, the current manifestation of Atheism, known as Neo Atheism, exhibits a more scientific orientation compared to its historical counterparts. This rise of scientific Atheism has been observed not only globally but also within Muslim-majority countries, posing a significant challenge to religion unprecedented in history. To effectively counter and counteract the misleading concepts of Atheism, Maulana emphasized the establishment and development of a new scientific discipline called "Ilm-e-Kalam" (the science of discourse). This discipline would utilize modern scientific and philosophical advancements, as the contemporary world's way of life and standards of logic have evolved substantially. By employing rational and scientific arguments, the evidence for the existence of God and the reality of religion can be presented convincingly. However, achieving this goal requires the establishment of a modern scientific "Ilm-e-Kalam" based on contemporary logical and scientific principles.
This article seeks to highlight the pressing need and significance of a new scientific and Islamic "Ilm-e-Kalam" in light of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan's thoughts and contributions in countering Atheism with a modern scientific and logical approach, the global rise of Neo Atheism, the challenges faced by religion, and the proposed solution of establishing a new scientific "Ilm-e-Kalam" to counter Atheism effectively.
