Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Generally, people from non-Muslim countries who claim expertise in the Middle East, Islam and Oriental studies are called Orientalists. There are basically two types of them: One is those who have a very hateful attitude towards the religion of Islam and through their writings and speeches criticize the religion of Islam, Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Seerat Tayyaba ﷺ and Islamic history.
Most of the Orientalists have a long list of hateful attitude towards Islam and their aim is just to criticize for the sake of criticism and to discourage the people of non-Muslim countries from accepting Islam. Compared to the biased Orientalists, there are some Orientalists who follow the path of moderation and do not criticize unjustly. They make some mistakes in their writing and speech, but generally their attitude is moderate.
Some of the orientalists who hate the religion of Islam or the moderate orientalists are inspired by Islamic teachings and accept Islam. In this research article, a brief introduction of some selected, moderate & those Orientalists who accepted Islam in 21st century has been presented. Also, the increasing rate of acceptance of Islam in the Western world due to the research works of Muslim scholars and translations of the Holy Quran, Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, Fiqh and History of Islam in Western languages at the beginning of the 21st century has also been examined.

Discussion

The discussion centers on the categorization of Orientalists and the impact of their work on perceptions of Islam. It contrasts biased Orientalists with those who exhibit moderation. The article also touches upon the role of translations and scholarly research in promoting understanding and acceptance of Islam in Western societies.

Key Findings

The article identifies two main types of Orientalists: those with a hateful attitude towards Islam and those who are moderate. It highlights that some Orientalists are inspired by Islamic teachings and accept Islam. The research also notes an increase in Islam's acceptance in the West, attributed to the availability of translations of Islamic texts and the work of Muslim scholars.

Conclusion

The research provides an overview of select Orientalists, distinguishing between critical and moderate viewpoints, and notes a trend of conversion to Islam among some scholars. It suggests that increased accessibility to Islamic knowledge in Western languages contributes to this trend.
