Abstract

AbstractObjective: To determine the association between various dental anomalies with class 1 malocclusion.
Methodology: This retrospective study was conducted at Jinnah Sindh Medical University's department of orthodontics. Dental cast analysis on pre-treatment models of already diagnosed or undertreatment patients was undertaken. Data analysis was done using SPSS 18.
Results: The most common anomaly seen was bucco-version, followed closely by torsi-version. We found a positive correlation between maxillary arch discrepancy and dental anomalies (p=0.05). This correlation was even stronger for the mandibular arch (p=0.01).
Conclusion: A discrepancy in this upper arch will have a greater effect on overall teeth alignment than a discrepancy in the lower mandibular arch. It’s important to note that any maxillary discrepancy will also affect the mandibular arch to some degree.Key words: Arch discrepancy, dental anomaly, malocclusion, maxillary arch discrepancy, mandibular arch discrepancy.
