Chambā Rūmāl is a hand embroidered, cotton scarf or a cover shaped in square. Embroidery was used to decorate the both top and bottom sides of the textiles providing a du-rukha-dual sided appearance, having symmetrical, flower-patterned and allegorical patterns. Silk thread is used to accomplish the shine on the face of the design surface. The scene portrayed include different ideas from Hindu mythology from the 16th century-19th century A.D. In addition to the other embroideries of the combined former Punjab, are the chamba1 rūmāls2, meaning handkerchief, but which are very tiny shawls. They are adorned with topics from Indian ideological stories, pictures inspried from the Ramayana3 and Mahabharat4, the rāsā līla5 of Radha6 and Krishna as well as rāginīs7 and rāgās8 and Pahari miniature paintings, done in silk thread on tūssar9 textile or delicate cotton materials. This research is about the collection of the Lahore Museum focused on the Chambā Rūmāls.
