“Al-Dalīl ” is the basic principle of Ijtihād in Zāhirī Fiqh, being used to find out injunctions from the Holy Qurān and Hadīth. Basically, it has the literal approach towards understanding of the Holy Quran and Hadīth . The pioneer of the principle of Ijtihād in Zāhirī Fiqh is Ibn e Ḥazam, who titled it as “Al-Dalīl ”. “Al-Dalīl ”, then, has two major kinds; “Al-Dalīl Nassi” (which is based on the text of Quran and Hadīth ) and “Al-Dalīl Ijmāi” (based on Ijmā'). The first one has seven kinds and the second consists of four kinds. This article eleborates critically the detalils of “Al-Dalīl Nassī” and its position in the perspective of Masālik e Arba'ah (Fiqh Hanafi, Fiqh Shafeī, Fiqh Malekī, Fiqh Hanbali).
