Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating the effects of cooperative learning strategy on peer attachment among students from different ethnic backgrounds in Malaysia. The study was also intended to identify the problems faced by the students during the implementation of cooperative learning strategy. The subscale for peers from the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (Armsden & Greenberg, 1987) was used to measure peer attachment. There were non significant differences in the peer attachment mean scores between the cooperative learning and traditional method groups. However, several students reported that their social relations with group members improved in the cooperative learning environment. The results also suggested that students needed time to build good relationships with group members from different ethnic backgrounds.
