Abstract

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is a criticalmedical specialty that improves function, reducesdisability, and decreases healthcare costs. However, manylow- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have minimalor absent PM&R services. Recent World HealthOrganization resolutions call for the scaling up of PM&R,presenting a unique opportunity to address disability ona global scale. Successful PM&R integration requires amulti-pronged approach involving governments, healthcare systems, employers, and patients. Investing inPM&R is not just a humanitarian imperative; it's soundeconomic policy. Policymakers must act now toincorporate PM&R into healthcare systems in LMICs,leading to healthier populations, reduced disability, andstronger economies. Keywords: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation,Disability, Health Policy, Health Economics, World HealthOrganization.
