Abstract

Obesity, which has emerged as a major global public healthchallenge, is associated with myriad medical andmultisystemic complications. Obesity impacts the malereproductive and sexual function in multiple ways as well.However, perhaps because of the focus on cardiovascularand metabolic health, the gonadal aspects of obesitymedicine have not been given due attention. We proposethe term OARS to describe obesity-associated reproductiveand sexual syndrome in men living with obesity. OARS canbe defined as a constellation of functional, hormonal, andstructural abnormalities that affect the reproductive andsexual health of such men. The term OARS should attractattention to this neglected field and prompt efforts toprevent and address the needs of men living with obesity.Keywords: hypogonadism, infertility, obesity, overweight,sexual dysfunction, sexuality, spermatogenesis, subfertility
