This analytical study examines the causes, effects, and prevention of sectarianism in Pakistan through the lens of Islamic teachings, particularly focusing on the Sunni-Shia conflicts. It delves into the origins of sectarianism in Pakistan, tracing back to the post-independence era and the challenges faced by the newly formed state. The article analyzes the factors that contributed to the rise of sectarian tensions and their detrimental impact on Pakistan's socio-economic landscape. The study highlights the failure of political leadership in effectively managing religious diversity and fostering unity based on Islamic principles. Despite Pakistan's founding vision of a state based on the principles of Islam, political weaknesses and mismanagement led to the exacerbation of sectarian conflicts. The Sunni-Shia divide became particularly pronounced, with elements within the state exacerbating tensions. Islamic teachings emphasize unity and mutual respect among Muslims, irrespective of sectarian affiliations. The article explores measures to address sectarianism, including promoting inter-sectarian dialogue, fostering religious tolerance, and strengthening national unity based on Islamic principles. By revisiting the founding vision of Pakistan as an inclusive Islamic state, the study suggests avenues for overcoming sectarian divides and building a harmonious society based on Islamic teachings of unity, justice, and compassion.
