Abstract

Caliphate and Kingship in Medieval Persia" delves into the intricate dynamics between the caliphs and kings in medieval Persia, shedding light on a period marked by political flux, cultural amalgamation, and religious evolution. This study explores the shifting power structures, examining the roles of the caliphate and monarchy in governance, legitimacy, and religious authority. Drawing upon historical sources, including chronicles, administrative records, and literary works, it traces the interactions between the caliphs, who claimed spiritual authority, and the Persian kings, who wielded temporal power. The analysis encompasses key figures such as the Abbasid caliphs and Persian dynasties like the Buyid’s, Seljuk’s, and Safaris, highlighting moments of cooperation, conflict, and accommodation. By elucidating the complexities of caliph-kingship relations, this study contributes to a nuanced understanding of medieval Persian history, illuminating how religious and political forces intersected to shape the sociopolitical landscape of the region
